HashtagHealth is a healthcare-only social media agency

HashtagHealth’s clients range from some of the biggest pharmaceutical manufacturers to biotech startups. The agency sits within Assembled Intelligence—a healthcare communications and commercialization platform that connects different specialties—and its team of about 25 is the social team for the whole platform.

Christina Stolfo, SVP, Social Media Strategy, HashtagHealth

Christina Stolfo, SVP, Social Media Strategy, oversees social strategy at HashtagHealth and has worked in social media for about 15 years. She started out as a news producer, also worked in PR, and has spent the last ten years focused on healthcare social media for pharmaceutical companies and health systems.

Healthcare listening ranges from hot topics to ultra-rare conditions

The most important thing in social listening is always empathy, Stolfo said:

“How can we get to the heart and soul of what our target audiences are experiencing? What are they feeling? What are they expressing? Who are the key authors and influencers in that space?”

For a hot topic like GLP-1s, “it’s like drinking from a fire hose,” she said. “There’s so much content, so much misinformation, so much credible information. It could be hard to figure out where to even start.” Asked how many videos one topic can hold, she said, “It could be thousands.”

At the other end, “we deal with conditions that are considered ultra-rare, affecting a couple thousand people in the U.S.,” Stolfo said. “You don’t have as much content, so it becomes harder to find the right content to analyze.”

Those small communities now find each other on video. TikTok was something of a trailblazer, she said, because its algorithm “somehow finds a way to connect even the most niche audiences.”

Before Syncly Social, Stolfo estimates, a full social listening report took her team a combined 30 to 40 hours, from a thorough assessment and analysis through the final deck.

Transcripts and summaries cut the watch time

“Before Syncly, it could take hours just to dig through one platform,” Stolfo said. “That included watching the video itself and then sifting through the comments to understand what the dialogue was really about.”

“Now, with Syncly, you can see the transcripts and read them really quickly, and there’s a good summary already to help us pinpoint which videos warrant a closer look,” she said of video analysis in Syncly Social.

“It helps cut through noise and find the most relevant content to analyze.” In an hour, depending on video length, Stolfo used to get through 15 to 20 videos and their comments.

“Syncly has shaved that time for us by at least 25% of what it was. I find myself working a lot faster.”

Summaries go straight into internal decks

When internal teams want a quick gut check on what people are saying about a disease state or topic, Stolfo turns to Syncly Social’s conversation insights.

“I can now just take screenshots of the summaries from Syncly and put them into a deck, because they have everything the teams need to make the right analysis,” she said. “Before, I would have had to type all of that up on my own.” Her team takes on two to four internal social listening requests a month, and she has used Syncly Social a lot to prepare for them.

Faster discovery leaves more time for analysis

“In the research phase, we’re seeing a lot of efficiency,” Stolfo said. Asked how the team would use the time Syncly Social saves, she said: “It allows us to go through the discovery phase a lot quicker, so we have more time to focus on the analysis phase, crafting better insights and stronger recommendations for our clients.”

The result

With Syncly Social:

  • Video review time cut by a quarter to a half

  • Internal teams get quick gut checks from Syncly Social’s summary

  • Faster research frees up time for “more collaboration and the impact that we can make”

For a peer at another agency in a niche industry, she described the gap that has opened as video became the primary format across social media:

“It’s the social listening platform that we’ve all been craving. For so many years, it’s just been Reddit and X content, and that’s just a small piece of the overall conversation.”
